Summer Spaces

It was nearly 90 degrees in the Twin Cities yesterday, and we're looking at 85 today, which is a tad unusual for October.  Puts me in the mood for another summery space, this time from Drew Hodges as featured in Country Living.

This house offers up a number of lessons in small-space living.  The homeowner connected the house to the garage and claimed it all as living space, leaving one wall stripped to the studs for an open feel.

Love the bare, white-painted rafters and the nautical touches.  The red chair and brown and white pouf have max impact in a mostly pal room.

This might be my favorite pair of "lessons": you can go bold with color in a small space so long as you leave a little breathing room, and sometimes a big piece of furniture has the counter-intuitive effect of making a room feel bigger, not smaller.  Loving the sconces (and the aqua paint) on the half wall behind the bed.

This shower is genius: the glass panel makes everything feel open and works around the sloped ceilings.  Also, what's not to love about a shower big enough to hose down your surfboard?

Also loving the mix of stripes throughout the house.

I started a file called "Masculine spaces I can get behind" because I started to pull rooms that got away from my more feminine aesthetic, and I have to say, this one could go right in there, couldn't it.

Are you still dreaming of summer?  Or have you jumped into fall?
