Monkey Wallpaper

When I was growing up, my grandmother had the most amazing wallpaper in her dining room, just inside picture moldings on the two long walls of the room.  Most of the time, the "kids table" was in the kitchen, so I didn't get to spend dinnertime staring at the monkeys in their little hats and coats, but I remember sneaking in there and making up stories about them.  When my grandparents downsized and built a townhome when they were in their 60s, the paper had been discontinued, but my grandmother had it reproduced.  She passed away before she was able to move in to the new place, but the monkeys did.  I always sort of wanted that wallpaper.

I think I may have audibly gasped when I was flipping through the new House Beautiful this weekend and saw their round up of monkey paper.  I immediately recognized the F. Schumacher pattern as my grandmother's own (though I did call in reinforcements and had my mother confirm.)

They must have just re-issued it.  (I know this scan isn't great, but the image is not up yet on the F. Schumacher website).  I would love to do this in my powder room, or buy one roll and frame out some panels in my dining room, just like my Nonny.

Is there something you wish you could replicate from a style idol?  What would it be?

  1. I love the idea of framed panels in your dining room. Sounds like Granny had it going on! If I pulled inspiration from my grannies everything would be paneling, covered in plastic or brown nubby fabric - and a silver xmas tree...which was kinda great now that I think about it.

  2. I think this such a cool story! You definitely need to get some. I love the green room you posted of your grandmother's earlier, she definitely had major style!
