Before and After: Tangletown Traditional

My husband and I are back on the photo shoot bandwagon!
I shared peeks of this transformation on Instagram last summer when everything was installed, but the full before and after is so much more fun.

Come on in to this GORGEOUS 1920s house in Tangletown.  When my clients moved in, it had received some "updates" that really weren't in keeping with the era of the house, and despite many lovely architectural details, the center hall felt a but unfinished.

Our goal: to restore the central public spaces of the home to full glory.  (And to refresh the small powder room until a full remodel happens down the road.)  To do that, we added wainscoting, wallpaper, new lighting, a wool stair runner, traditional window treatments, and elegant furnishings.  We knew the panelling was the right move when all visitors failed to notice it after the work was done!  It belongs so well, it looks like it has always been there.

(I think the carpet is the one thing that didn't photograph well--MUCH prettier in person!  But the pattern reads well here, so there's that.)

A few more details:

(love the mix of a reeded wood pole to connect to dark wood banister, with gold end cap and rings to tie in with the new gold lighting.  Also,  The embroidered vine-patterned fabric was really hard to capture!)

I always love a reason to paint a ceiling! 

Next up: the sunroom!  Think patterned cement tile and built in banquette.  Hopefully this summer.

Spotted: "My" Indian Artwork

Remember when I took a wee step back to re-imagine my dining room?  (The accidental rug arrives this week, by the way, and I am afraid I will hate it.)  The clear favorite of the artwork options in those new dining room boards was a pair of large-scale Indian figures, themselves re-imagined from tiny paintings.

Last week I was looking through some inspiration images with a new client, and I spotted the prints!

Layered over my very favorite--leopard print--no less.  And with trimmed out walls.

Gah!

And who is the genius behind this room?  Peter Dunham, of course, my other style idol (as witnessed here, here, and here!)

At first this made me want the prints more.  But then it made me want them....less?

Good morning!

Generally, I don't post pages from new issues of magazines.  But when the most recent issue of Traditional Home just came, with an advertisement for their online publication tradhomemag.com, I was surprised that it went live May 12 and I have not read a peep about it in the blogosphere.

I dove in, and it's good!

You might remember that Traditional Home made its first foray into on-line publishing last year in a partnership with Lonny, here.  This year they appear to be working solo, but the results are similar.  The market pages have sources that were actually new to me (and at a price point that is workable), like this and this.  Like last year, the well stories feature a bunch of "new traditionals": up and coming designers working on a traditional backbone, but infusing their own interpretation.  Here are some of my favorite spaces from the issue.

(I love color, but there are lovely spaces on the neutral end of the spectrum as well!)

I have to say, I also actually READ most of the articles, and learned a thing or two.  The only thing I found a little strange is that the magazine still LOOKS like Lonny--especially the way page captions are done.  I would have thought a redesign would be in order.  But maybe next time?
